Thai farmworker Anucha Angkaew was among six Thais captured by Hamas militants on October 7, two of whom were killed soon after.
Anucha spent 50 days in captivity, mostly in two small underground rooms, enduring beatings and harsh conditions.
Anucha and his fellow captives kept their spirits up by playing chess on a makeshift board and dreaming of home and food.
Anucha was released on November 25 and returned to his family home in Thailand.
In response to the October 7 attack, Israel launched a bombing campaign and ground offensive, resulting in over 15,000 deaths.
