Texas Mother Charged After Two Young Siblings Found Dead in Car

Investigators are awaiting medical examiner findings following concerns over inconsistencies in the mother's account.

Overview

  • Bexar County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tiona Lasaisha Islar, 28, on two counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury or death, and a judge set bail at $300,000.
  • The children were identified as 3-year-old Miyani Islar and 6-year-old Sevani Stevenson, who were discovered Saturday afternoon in the Alamo Ranch area and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Sheriff Javier Salazar said the initial report stated the children were left in a car, but he noted “inconsistencies” in the account provided by the mother.
  • A deputy attempted CPR on both children before paramedics arrived, and officials said they are awaiting the cause and manner of death from the medical examiner.
  • Authorities cited prior CPS contacts at the home and requested tips or video from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as KidsAndCars.org reports at least 29 U.S. child hot-car deaths so far this year.
