Texas Man Sentenced to Nearly Three Years for Threatening Rep. Maxine Waters

Brian Michael Gaherty received a 33-month prison sentence and a $10,000 fine for making racially charged death threats against the congresswoman.

Gaherty, 61, admitted to making threats in four voicemails during August and November 2022.
The threats included promises to 'cut [her] throat' and 'put a cap' between her eyes.
A hate-crime enhancement was added to Gaherty's sentence due to the racist nature of the threats.
Rep. Waters testified that the threats have caused her and her family to live in constant fear.
Despite warnings from law enforcement, Gaherty continued to make violent threats against Waters.
