Texas Man Sentenced to Life for Killing Two Hospital Workers After Girlfriend Gave Birth

Nestor Hernandez, 31, was on parole and visiting his newborn child when he fatally shot social worker Jacqueline Pokuaa and nurse Katie Annette Flowers at Dallas Medical Center, following an argument with his girlfriend over alleged infidelity.

  • Nestor Hernandez, 31, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of two hospital workers, social worker Jacqueline Pokuaa, 45, and nurse Katie Annette Flowers, 63, at Methodist Dallas Medical Center in October 2022.
  • Hernandez was visiting his girlfriend who had just given birth when he accused her of infidelity, hit her on the head, and then shot Pokuaa and Flowers when they entered the room.
  • During the trial, Hernandez admitted to shooting the two women but claimed it was an accident and that he didn't intend to kill anyone.
  • Prosecutors argued that Hernandez went to the hospital with 'rage, resentment, anger, and a plan to kill,' motivated by a belief that his girlfriend had cheated on him and he wasn’t the baby’s father, a claim that was proven false during the trial.
  • At the time of the shooting, Hernandez was on parole for aggravated robbery and had been granted permission to be at the hospital while wearing an ankle monitor.
  • The incident caused significant trauma to the hospital staff, officers, and other families present on that day, with Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot stating that justice is no replacement for the innocent lives lost.
