Texas Man Sentenced to 3 Years for $1.2M Romance Scam
Rotimi Oladimeji, along with two co-defendants, defrauded a Missouri woman by posing as a Belgian national on an online dating site.
- Rotimi Oladimeji, a 38-year-old Texas man, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a romance scam that defrauded a Missouri woman of nearly $1.2 million.
- Oladimeji and his co-conspirators met the victim on the 'Silver Singles' online dating site, posing as a Belgian national who was a veterinarian and animal behaviorist living in St. Louis.
- The scammers convinced the victim that the man needed money because he was not being allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates, where he had gone for a business deal.
- Oladimeji, who received about 20% of the stolen money, is responsible for fully reimbursing the victim unless his two co-defendants pay back some of it.
- Oladimeji's co-defendants, Olumide Akrinmade and Adewale Adesanya, have also pleaded guilty to federal charges and have been sentenced to prison and ordered to repay the money.
