Texas Man Sentenced to 3 Years for $1.2M Romance Scam

Rotimi Oladimeji, along with two co-defendants, defrauded a Missouri woman by posing as a Belgian national on an online dating site.

Rotimi Oladimeji, a 38-year-old Texas man, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for his role in a romance scam that defrauded a Missouri woman of nearly $1.2 million.
Oladimeji and his co-conspirators met the victim on the 'Silver Singles' online dating site, posing as a Belgian national who was a veterinarian and animal behaviorist living in St. Louis.
The scammers convinced the victim that the man needed money because he was not being allowed to leave the United Arab Emirates, where he had gone for a business deal.
Oladimeji, who received about 20% of the stolen money, is responsible for fully reimbursing the victim unless his two co-defendants pay back some of it.
Oladimeji's co-defendants, Olumide Akrinmade and Adewale Adesanya, have also pleaded guilty to federal charges and have been sentenced to prison and ordered to repay the money.
