Texas Man Charged With Murder After Alleged Kevlar Helmet 'Shooting Game' Turns Fatal

Investigators say inconsistencies with an initial suicide report prompted the homicide charge.

Overview

  • Aaron Prout, 34, was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Aug. 17 at a home on Pennington Hills Drive in Spring and later died at a hospital.
  • Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Prout and Sean Odonnell, 37, allegedly took turns firing a rifle at each other while one wore a Kevlar helmet inside the house.
  • Detectives charged Odonnell with murder and booked him into the Harris County Jail; he is held on a $300,000 bond with a Sept. 2 court appearance, according to court records.
  • Officials have not released key technical details, including the rifle type, the distance between the men, or whether the helmet was penetrated.
  • Houston Public Media reported that online court records initially did not show the murder case, though a separate Aug. 21 DWI entry for a person with the same identifiers appeared.
