Overview
- Law enforcement arrested 40-year-old Benny Caldera Jr. at his Converse home early Wednesday after Texas DPS received what it called credible information about a planned violent attack on the Texas State Capitol for Oct. 1.
- Caldera was booked on a felony charge of terroristic threat against a public servant and was released from Bexar County Jail after posting a $75,000 bond.
- Texas DPS special agents worked overnight with the FBI and local partners and used a SWAT team to make the arrest at about 3 a.m., officials said.
- Investigators are seeking search warrants for Caldera’s electronic devices to determine motive and whether he had accomplices; no additional arrests have been announced and the probe remains active.
- The Texas Capitol remained open with an increased DPS security presence, and state and federal officials publicly praised the rapid interagency response while urging the public to report suspicious activity through iWatchTexas or call 911 for emergencies.
