Texas Man Accused of Killing Parents, Four Others in Shooting Spree
Shane James, previously arrested for family assault, now faces capital murder charges after a violent rampage in San Antonio and Austin.
- Shane James, 34, is accused of killing his parents in San Antonio before embarking on a shooting spree in Austin, resulting in the deaths of four more people and injuring three others.
- James was arrested in Austin on Tuesday night and is charged with capital murder. He had previously been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his family members and had a history of mental health issues.
- James allegedly began his violent spree by killing his parents, Phyllis James, 55, and Shane James Sr., 56, at their home in San Antonio. He then traveled about 80 miles to Austin, where he continued his rampage.
- In Austin, James allegedly shot an Austin Independent School District police officer, killed Emmanuel Pop Ba, 32, and Sabrina Rahman, 24, injured a cyclist, and killed two more people in a home he allegedly burglarized.
- James was previously arrested in January 2022 on charges of misdemeanor assault of his parents and a sibling. He was released from jail in March 2022 after cutting off his ankle monitor.
