Texas Lawmaker Venton Jones Proposes to Partner on State Capitol Floor

State Rep. Venton Jones proposed to his longtime partner, Gregory Scott Jr., on the Texas House floor following his swearing-in ceremony on the first day of the 89th legislative session.
The couple was surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues during the emotional moment, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media.
Jones, a Democrat representing District 100 in Dallas, is one of the first out Black gay men elected to the Texas Legislature and serves as vice chair of the Texas LGBTQ Caucus.
In his proposal, Jones emphasized that their love symbolizes resilience and progress, particularly in a state where LGBTQ rights have faced significant legislative challenges.
Jones reaffirmed his commitment to using his position as House Democratic Caucus whip to advocate for equality and protect all Texans.
