Texas governor appoints interim attorney general after impeachment of Ken Paxton

John Scott appointed as Texas' attorney general temporarily by Gov. Greg Abbott after Ken Paxton's impeachment
Paxton suspended from office pending the outcome of a trial in the state Senate
Scott previously worked in the attorney general's office and served as Texas Secretary of State
Paxton faced 20 charges alleging sweeping abuses of power, including obstruction of justice, bribery, and abuse of public trust
Paxton's trial is expected to start no later than Aug. 28.
