Texas Flash Floods Claim 27 Lives as Camp Mystic Girls Remain Missing

  • Floodwaters have begun receding along the Guadalupe River after surging more than 26 feet in under an hour, but many access roads remain impassable and communications are disrupted around impacted camps.
  • Search and rescue operations involve over 500 personnel, 14 helicopters and 12 drones conducting air and ground sweeps for approximately 23–25 girls unaccounted for at Camp Mystic.
  • Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha says the confirmed death toll has risen to 27 flood-related fatalities, including at least nine children, as recovery teams continue their work.
  • Governor Greg Abbott signed a disaster declaration and deployed the Texas National Guard, Department of Public Safety, US Coast Guard and FEMA to reinforce local water rescue and relief efforts.
