Overview
- Counties closed a 12-day early voting period on Oct. 30 with unusually large totals, including Bexar County reporting nearly 530,000 early ballots and Travis County reporting more than 405,000.
- Officials and voters said long lines and heavy demand forced some sites to extend hours and add staff, with wait times reported up to two hours or longer at busy locations.
- Bexar County introduced DS300 ballot scanners and at least seven sites experienced ballot jams that required voters to deposit ballots in emergency boxes for later processing and counting.
- Voters also reported touchscreen issues where selections failed to register or appeared to change, and county officials attributed most problems to touchscreen sensitivity or miscalibration rather than tampering.
- Though early turnout surpassed 2022 midterm early rates in key counties, mail ballots will continue to arrive and a sizable share of voters historically still cast ballots on Election Day, so final totals and county counts will change after Nov. 3.
