Texas Declares West Texas Measles Outbreak Over After 42 Days Without New Cases

Health officials shift to vaccination campaigns to bolster community immunity.

Overview

  • The outbreak resulted in 762 confirmed cases statewide, including 99 hospitalizations and two deaths in unvaccinated school-age children.
  • DSHS will continue monitoring for new cases and has discontinued its interactive outbreak dashboard.
  • More than half of cases (414) were in Gaines County, which reports some of the state’s highest conscientious vaccine exemption rates.
