Overview

• Deputies responded on Oct. 10 to the 4000 block of Sandestin Boulevard in Miramar Beach after reports of an unattended infant under a beach tent.
• Good Samaritans cared for the baby and alerted authorities until first responders reached the scene.
• The parents returned and told deputies they left the child to nap and lost track of time.
• South Walton Fire District personnel evaluated the infant and found normal vitals with no signs of distress.
• Brian, 40, and Sara Wilks, 37, were arrested on child neglect without great bodily harm, DCF took custody pending relatives’ arrival from Texas, and both bonded out the next day on $1,000 each.
