Texas Beats Kansas City, 71–55, But Shooting Woes Temper Win

Cold shooting across the board kept the margin modest.

Overview

  • Texas never trailed in the first-ever meeting and led by as many as 22, but the Longhorns finished only plus-four in the second half to close out a 71–55 home win.
  • The Longhorns shot 38.2% from the field, went 4-for-20 from three (20%), and hit 17 of 28 free throws (60.7%).
  • Tramon Mark opened with an early three and a steal-and-dunk but then missed his final seven shots, while Jordan Pope went 1-for-11 from the floor, 0-for-6 from deep, and recorded no assists.
  • Matas Vokietaitis posted 12 points and eight rebounds but struggled to finish through contact and went 6-for-12 at the line; Lassina Traore added a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double and Dailyn Swain scored a team-high 13.
  • Despite 15 fast-break points and 38 points in the paint, Texas generated little second-half disruption, forcing only two turnovers after the break against a Roos team they were projected to beat by about 28.
