The investigation follows comments by Dallas Interim Police Chief Michael Igo, who stated that the police department does not assist federal agencies in detaining individuals based on their immigration status.
Paxton’s office has formally requested access to Dallas' policies, training materials, and communications related to immigration law enforcement.
The 2017 Texas law prohibits local governments from adopting policies that prevent officers from inquiring about immigration status, and Paxton vows legal action to ensure compliance.
Dallas city officials have acknowledged receipt of the letter from Paxton’s office and stated they are reviewing it before responding further.
