Texas and Florida Lead US Population Growth as Immigration Surges

Texas and Florida saw the largest population growth in the US in 2023, with Texas adding 473,453 people and Florida adding 365,205.
New York and California experienced the largest population declines, losing 101,984 and 75,423 residents respectively.
The South accounted for 87% of the US's population growth in 2023, with South Carolina having the highest growth rate at 1.7%.
Immigration was a significant driver of population growth, with the US adding 1.1 million people from international migration, the highest number in over two decades.
The decrease in deaths also contributed to population growth, with about 300,000 fewer deaths in 2023 compared to the previous year.
