Overview

  • The Texans announced multiple moves on August 19, signing wide receivers Juwann Winfree and Cornell Powell.
  • Houston also waived injured wideout Xavier Johnson and released veteran running back J.J. Taylor.
  • Winfree, a 2019 sixth-round pick, has appeared in 23 NFL games with nine receptions for 75 yards and spent 2024 on injured reserve with the Colts.
  • Powell, a 2021 fifth-round selection, most recently was on the Seahawks practice squad after working out for Houston alongside Winfree, per KPRC 2.
  • The additions follow the trade sending John Metchie and a 2026 sixth-round pick to the Eagles for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-rounder, with final decisions due by the August 26 cutdown after Friday’s preseason finale at Detroit.
