Tesla’s China Sales Sink to Three-Year Low as Market Share Slides

CPCA data point to domestic demand cooling as Tesla leans on exports from Shanghai.

  • Tesla delivered 26,006 vehicles to Chinese buyers in October, down 35.8% year over year and the weakest month since 2022.
  • Market share in China declined to 3.2% from 8.7% in September, according to CPCA figures.
  • Exports of China-made Teslas reached 35,491 vehicles, a two-year high, while Giga Shanghai wholesales fell 32% from September to 61,497.
  • Through October, Tesla recorded 458,710 retail sales in China (down 8.4% year over year) and 667,861 total sales including exports (down 10.2%).
  • CPCA reported a 0.8% drop in October passenger-car retail sales, Chinese brands such as Xiaomi and Nio posted stronger monthly tallies, and Tesla renewed incentives in China as it says it expects potential FSD (Supervised) approval in early 2026.
