The drop in sales is attributed to production adjustments for a refreshed Model Y and the timing of the Chinese New Year holidays.

Overview

  • Tesla sold 63,238 China-made vehicles in January 2025, an 11.5% decrease compared to January 2024.
  • Sales also dropped 32.6% from December 2024, when the company sold 93,766 units.
  • The decline is partly linked to production line adjustments for the upcoming refreshed Model Y, with deliveries expected to begin globally in March.
  • The Chinese New Year holidays, which fell earlier this year, also impacted production and sales figures.
  • Tesla's competitor BYD saw a 47.5% year-over-year increase in January sales, reaching 296,446 units, driven by strong plug-in hybrid and EV performance.
