Overview

• Tesla shipped 83,192 vehicles from its Shanghai plant in August, down 4% year over year, marking declines in seven of the past eight months, according to China’s Passenger Car Association.
• Country data for August show Tesla registrations down year over year in Sweden, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and Italy, with gains in Norway, Portugal, and Spain.
• BYD outsold Tesla in the European Union in July with about 9,700 vehicles versus Tesla’s 6,600, and in August posted faster growth than Tesla in Norway and Spain, topping 200% and 400% respectively.
• Since launching in mid-July, Tesla has logged roughly 600 orders in India and now plans to ship only 350–500 cars there from Shanghai this year, well below an expected 2,500.
