Tesla Targets Higher 2026 Output at Berlin-Area Factory

Management credits a stable operation despite weak German demand.

Overview

  • Plant chief André Thierig says production rose each quarter in 2025 and the site is positioned for another increase in 2026.
  • The Grünheide facility is building about 5,000 vehicles per week and employs roughly 11,000 people, according to company figures.
  • German registrations fell to 17,358 from January to November, down about 48% year over year, but the plant supplies more than 30 export markets with Canada newly added.
  • A first partial permit to expand capacity has been granted, preparations for a second application are underway, and local infrastructure work near the site continues.
  • Tesla announced plans in mid‑December to enable full battery‑cell production in Germany from about 2027 with up to eight gigawatt‑hours annually, while environmental groups continue to challenge the site’s location in a water protection area and the company cites reduced water use and wastewater recycling.
