Tesla Recalls Nearly 200,000 Vehicles Over Rearview Camera Software Issue

No physical return required as issue resolved with over-the-air software update

  • Tesla is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles due to a software issue that prevented the rearview camera from displaying. The recall covers 2023 Model S, X, and Y vehicles equipped with Tesla’s full self-driving technology.
  • The issue was first reported in December 2023, and Tesla has already released a free over-the-air software update to remedy the problem.
  • Despite the term 'recall', no physical return of the vehicles to the manufacturer or service center is required. The issue was resolved through a software update.
  • Tesla began getting complaints about the problem in late December and decided to do a recall on Jan. 12. As of Jan. 22, the company had 81 warranty claims potentially related to the problem.
  • Tesla is not aware of any crashes, injuries or deaths related to the issue.
