Tesla Recalls 6,197 Cybertrucks Over Risk of Off‑Road Light Bar Detaching

Tesla traced the defect to a primer mix-up during service installs, with free mechanical retrofits for owners.

Overview

  • A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filing says an incorrect surface primer used to attach the optional light bar can weaken adhesion and allow the unit to fall off.
  • The recall covers Cybertrucks built from Nov. 13, 2023 to Nov. 5, 2024, and Tesla reports 619 warranty claims and one field report with no known crashes or injuries.
  • Service centers will inspect affected vehicles and either replace the light bar or add a bracket for a positive mechanical attachment, using adhesive tape as needed, at no charge.
  • Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed on Dec. 26, and drivers may notice a loose fit, a visible gap at the windshield, or cabin noise as symptoms.
  • The action affects roughly 10% of the approximately 63,619 Cybertrucks on the road, with reporting citing technician mix-ups between BetaPrime and BetaSeal primers during installation.
