Tesla Raises Pay at German Gigafactory by 4%

IG Metall says only a collective agreement will close what it calls a larger pay gap than Tesla’s figures suggest.

Overview

  • Tesla says the adjustment was made unilaterally as part of its regular salary reviews, without union involvement.
  • The company claims post-increase entry pay for production staff is about €6,000, or roughly 14.5%, above the relevant tariff rate for Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony.
  • IG Metall calls that comparison misleading, saying Tesla uses the lowest pay group and that longer working hours leave overall pay 30–35% below collective-agreement levels.
  • The union continues to push for a Tarifvertrag at Grünheide and has demanded at least €1,500 in Christmas bonus payments.
  • There is no collective bargaining agreement at Tesla in Germany, and the dispute underscores the strained relationship between the company and the union.
