Overview

  • Tesla informed staff via an internal memo that select Model Y owners will receive invites to use Robotaxis across Marin, the East Bay, San Francisco and San Jose starting this weekend.
  • Each vehicle will carry a safety driver with full steering and brake control, mirroring the Austin pilot’s front-seat monitors and remote oversight.
  • Tesla’s Austin fleet has logged more than 7,000 miles with no reported safety-critical incidents, though exact vehicle counts and intervention metrics remain undisclosed.
  • The California DMV says Tesla has not applied for the permits needed for driverless testing or commercial deployment, and the CPUC has yet to grant approval for public service.
  • Elon Musk told investors he expects autonomous Teslas to reach roughly half of U.S. consumers by year-end, contingent on securing government authorizations.
