Tesla Model X Launches Over Pool, Crashes Into San Mateo Home

Driver and passenger unharmed in incident, house significantly damaged and under inspection.

A 70-year-old woman lost control of her Tesla Model X in a residential area of San Mateo, causing the vehicle to launch up to 50 feet in the air over a swimming pool before crashing into a neighboring home's kitchen.
The driver and her 40-year-old daughter, who were in the car at the time of the accident, were not injured. The home they crashed into was unoccupied.
Witnesses reported seeing the Tesla slow down to a stop before rapidly accelerating. The vehicle was not in self-driving mode at the time of the incident.
The driver stated that she was unfamiliar with driving this car and had not driven in about a year. She suggested there might have been an issue with the car.
The house sustained significant damage, including to the kitchen and rear wall, and has been red-tagged for inspection before residents can re-enter.
