Tesla Lowers Entry Prices With New 'Standard' Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S.

The company is trading features for a lower sticker price to defend demand in a tougher market after federal incentives ended.

Overview

  • Model 3 Standard starts at $36,990 and Model Y Standard at $39,990, roughly $5,000 below the existing Premium trims.
  • The Standard versions post about 321 miles EPA range and drop items such as Autosteer, rear-seat display and heating, the Model Y’s panoramic roof, an FM radio, and several lighting and interior upgrades.
  • U.S. ordering is live, with many delivery estimates pointing to late 2025 windows on Tesla’s website.
  • Tesla Germany’s André Thierig said Model Y Standard production at Grünheide will begin within weeks, with series deliveries to follow and European pricing still pending.
  • The move replaces a scrapped $25,000 standalone car as Tesla shifts its novel production approach toward a robotaxi, while analysts questioned demand impact and shares fell about 4–4.5%.
