Tesla Loses Cybertruck Chief as Model Y Manager Exits Hours Later

The twin exits leave key programs without publicly named successors, raising execution concerns.

Overview

  • Siddhant Awasthi said he is leaving Tesla after more than eight years, having risen from intern to lead the Cybertruck program and, since July, the Model 3 program.
  • Model Y vehicle program manager Emmanuel Lamacchia also announced his departure on the same day after nearly eight years overseeing the model’s rollout across multiple factories.
  • Cybertruck sales have slumped in the U.S., with about 5,385 registrations in Q3 and roughly 16,000 year-to-date through September, far below targets once discussed around 200,000–250,000 annually.
  • The pickup has faced repeated recalls, including a March action covering 46,096 vehicles and a more recent recall affecting roughly 6,200 units, alongside reports of inventory discounts in recent months.
  • Tesla’s record Q3 deliveries were boosted by a $7,500 U.S. tax credit that expired September 30, and analysts have warned of a likely Q4 drop as the incentive ended.
