Overview

  • New orders for the Model S and Model X have been removed from major European online configurators, leaving only demonstrator or pre-owned vehicles available in markets including Germany, Norway, the UK, France and the Netherlands.
  • Registrations of the two luxury models plunged in the first half of 2025 with just 58 new Model S and 59 new Model X in Germany compared with 6,305 for the Model Y.
  • Tesla rolled out a minor June facelift for the Model S and X in the US but has not yet secured EU approval for the updated versions.
  • Analysts point to weak demand, high homologation costs and thin margins as the likely drivers behind the quiet withdrawal of the premium sedans from Europe.
  • The company is reallocating resources toward its higher-volume Model 3 and Model Y and is developing an entry-level €25,000 EV to boost overall sales volume.
