Tesla Enables Cybertruck Powershare to Work With Powerwall 3

Overview

• Tesla began enabling Cybertruck Powershare with Powerwall 3 for eligible owners who complete an opt-in survey Thursday, rolling out activation site by site rather than unlocking it for all homes at once.
• The pairing extends backup by more than three days under Tesla’s 30 kWh-per-day assumption, a figure the company frames as the truck adding the energy equivalent of nine Powerwalls.
• The combined system is capped at an 11.5 kW system power limit, so the truck increases how long a house can run during an outage but does not raise the amount of power the home can use at a given moment.
• Powershare with Powerwall 3 requires a Powerwall 3 backup configuration (Gateway 3, Backup Gateway 2, or Backup Switch) plus a Gen 3 or Universal Wall Connector on a backed-up circuit, and Tesla’s install docs prohibit adding a separate Powershare Gateway to a Powerwall system.
• The feature closes a gap that was announced in November 2023 but repeatedly delayed as engineers and regulators worked out how two grid-forming inverters should negotiate control; Tesla says compatibility for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ will follow later in 2026.
