Tesla Driver Dies After Semi Hits Stopped Car on I-4 in Lake Mary

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating why the Tesla was stopped in the center travel lane.

Overview

  • The crash happened around 9:27 p.m. Monday on eastbound I-4 just past the Lake Mary Boulevard exit near mile marker 98.
  • Troopers say a 43-year-old Deltona man driving a Tesla Model 3 was stationary in the center lane as two tractor-trailers approached in the same lane.
  • One semi moved to another lane to avoid the car, while the second struck the rear of the Tesla, hit a guardrail and overturned onto its side.
  • The collision forced the Tesla off the roadway, where it struck the trailer of the first semi; both truck drivers were not injured.
  • All lanes later reopened as troopers continued an active investigation with no cause yet identified for the stopped vehicle.
