Tesco Survey Finds Fewer Brits Serving Turkey as Convenience Dishes Rise

Young adults increasingly favour takeaway-style menus over a traditional roast.

Overview

  • Tesco’s Christmas Trends Report says only 52% of adults plan to serve turkey this year, with many switching to chicken, beef or plant-based menus.
  • Nearly one in five respondents intend to choose easier options such as pizza, curry or pasta so hosts spend less time cooking.
  • Pigs in blankets remain the top trimming overall, but among 25–34s 32% prefer rice and 23% pick chips as their favourite side.
  • About 73% expect to host at some point over the festive period, and 28% plan to drink less alcohol, with 12% not drinking at all.
  • The average Christmas table is set for eight in the UK versus 11 in Northern Ireland, and 70% say they will use an artificial tree.
