Teresa Grüner, 22, Retires From Alpine Racing as Knee Injuries Deplete ÖSV Juniors

Repeated knee surgeries left the Tyrolean unable to risk a return to elite racing.

Overview

  • Grüner announced her decision on Instagram on September 22, saying her body can no longer take the risk after years of operations, setbacks and rehabilitation.
  • She sustained a major left-knee injury in August 2023 during giant-slalom training at the Stilfser Joch, tearing the cruciate ligament, the medial ligament and the outer meniscus.
  • Earlier problems included a serious right-knee injury in February 2022 and a March 2025 operation for left-knee meniscus issues and a cyst.
  • Her progression stalled with only three Europa Cup starts, no World Cup debut and the loss of ÖSV squad status after the 2024/25 season.
  • ÖSV junior Adrian Tschach, 20, ruptured the left ACL during training in Argentina and will miss the entire 2025/26 season.
