Tentative Deal Halts AUPE Hospital Worker Strike Minutes After It Began

The agreement followed wage talks that had stalled over a roughly nine per cent gap with the province’s last offer at 12 per cent over four years.

The AUPE gave strike notice on Wednesday and barring any last minute contract deal, its members will go on strike Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

Overview

  • AUPE said shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday that nursing-care members were called off picket lines following a tentative agreement with Alberta Health Services.
  • The union had announced before the 8:30 a.m. deadline that no deal was reached, and picketing began before the stand-down.
