Tennessee Holds Top Spot in College Basketball Rankings as Auburn Closes In

The SEC dominates with five of the top seven teams in the latest AP and Coaches Polls, showcasing its strength in the 2024-25 season.

  • Tennessee remains No. 1 in both the AP and USA TODAY Coaches Polls after improving to 10-0, receiving 50 first-place votes in the AP poll and 22 in the Coaches Poll.
  • Auburn, ranked No. 2, narrowed the gap with Tennessee by earning 12 first-place votes in the AP poll and nine in the Coaches Poll, bolstered by a dominant 91-53 win over Ohio State.
  • The Southeastern Conference (SEC) has five of the top seven teams in the AP poll, including Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky (No. 4), Alabama (No. 6), and Florida (No. 7).
  • UConn made the biggest jump in the AP poll, climbing seven spots to No. 11 after defeating then-No. 8 Gonzaga, while Purdue dropped five spots to No. 16 following a loss to Texas A&M.
  • Dayton and Memphis re-entered the AP Top 25, while Wisconsin and Mississippi State dropped out after recent losses and narrow wins, respectively.
