Tenet Nurses Set One-Day Strike at Six California Hospitals on Oct. 30
Union leaders cite months of stalled bargaining over safe-staffing protections as the reason for the one-day walkout.
Overview
- RNs plan a one-day strike on Oct. 30 at Doctors Medical Center (Modesto), Emanuel Medical Center (Turlock), Doctors Hospital Manteca, San Ramon Medical Center, Desert Regional Medical Center (Palm Springs), and Hi-Desert Medical Center (Joshua Tree).
- About 3,100 nurses represented by the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United have been in contract talks with Tenet since February, with contracts expiring in June.
- Nurses are seeking guaranteed meal and rest break coverage, stronger recruitment and retention of experienced staff, dedicated lift teams, and enforceable safe-staffing at all times.
- Tenet says it has negotiated in good faith, proposed mediation, and will keep hospitals fully operational with qualified replacement nurses during the strike.
- The union delivered a 10-day strike notice this week after a unanimous strike authorization in early September to allow hospitals to prepare alternative patient care plans.
