Overview
- Sachin Tendulkar publicly praised Joe Root in a Reddit Ask Me Anything, saying he had rated Root highly since the batter’s Test debut and naming Root among his favourite non-Indian batters.
- Root currently has 14,278 Test runs, placing him about 1,643 runs short of Tendulkar’s record total of 15,921.
- The England captain has already surpassed Tendulkar in one key consistency metric, reaching 69 Test half-centuries compared with Tendulkar’s 68.
- Tendulkar used the same AMA to restate a specific ODI reform: split 50 overs into two 25-over innings, keep 10 wickets for the full 50 overs, and use a single ball to help restore balance between bat and ball.
- Root’s chase will need sustained Test cricket to complete and is likely to shape how fans and boards talk about player legacy, scheduling and the future balance of formats in international cricket.
