Tencent Releases Hy4, a Vision-Capable Open-Source AI Model

Publishing model weights and rolling Hy4 into Tencent Cloud signals a push to widen third-party use and faster real-world deployment.

Overview

  • Tencent released Hy4 on Wednesday, and the model adds visual understanding, direct computer-control tools and a one-million-token context window to the Hy family.
  • The company says it will publish Hy4’s model weights and system cards and make the model available across Tencent Cloud products such as TokenHub, WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy and via third-party APIs.
  • In internal tests Tencent reported a drop in hallucination rates from 12.95% to 7.2% and a fall in unsupported-assumption errors from 23.1% to 5.6%, figures that the company presented as measures of improved factuality.
  • Tencent said Hy4 was optimized for professional finance work and that it topped a blind evaluation of 579 real-world financial tasks judged by 213 industry professionals.
  • Reports say Oracle terminated a proposed $7 billion deal to supply advanced AI chips to Tencent after U.S. officials raised concerns, a development that could limit Tencent’s access to external high-end compute and affect future scaling.
