Temwa Chawinga Wins 2024 NWSL MVP After Record-Breaking Season

The Kansas City Current forward set league records for goals, assists, and scoring streaks in her debut season.

Temwa Chawinga, a forward for the Kansas City Current, was named the 2024 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) MVP on Friday.
Chawinga broke the NWSL single-season scoring record with 20 goals, surpassing Sam Kerr's previous record of 18, and won the Golden Boot award.
She became the first player in league history to score against all 13 other NWSL teams in a single season and set a record with an eight-game scoring streak.
In addition to her 20 goals, Chawinga tallied six assists, setting a new league record for combined goal contributions in a season.
The 26-year-old Malawian is the first African international to win the NWSL MVP award and was praised for her impact both on and off the field.
