Temple and Jefferson Resident Physicians Ratify First Union Contracts

Overview

• Residents at Temple University Health System and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals ratified their first collective-bargaining agreements, the union announced Thursday.
• The contracts cover roughly 2,200 resident physicians and fellows who provide care at more than 20 hospitals and clinics across the greater Philadelphia area.
• CIR-SEIU said the agreements include substantial raises and greater funding for resident education, with the aim of improving training resources and conference support.
• The deals correct internal pay disparities by bringing Jefferson Einstein Hospital salaries in line with other Jefferson sites and moving Temple Chestnut Hill pay toward parity by the second year.
• With these ratifications, about 86% of Philadelphia-area residents are now covered by CIR-SEIU contracts, following earlier wins at Penn and ongoing negotiations at other systems such as ChristianaCare.
