Temecula Man Charged After Alleged Gunpoint Detention of Teen

Federal authorities have not confirmed claims that the suspect works for ICE.

Overview

  • Deputies responded around 10:40 p.m. on Nov. 10 to the Sommers Bend area after a parent reported a man displayed a badge and ordered a 17-year-old out of his car at gunpoint.
  • Investigators identified the suspect as Gerardo Rodriguez and arrested him at his home without incident after serving a search warrant that yielded evidence.
  • Rodriguez was booked on assault with a deadly weapon, child endangerment, and assault by a public officer, posted $40,000 bail, was released shortly after booking, and is due in court Dec. 26.
  • Home surveillance video shared by the family’s attorney appears to show a man pointing a gun and yelling, “Freeze, police!” as a pickup approaches before directing the teen to comply.
  • The family’s attorney says Rodriguez is an ICE agent, a characterization DHS and ICE have not confirmed, and sheriff’s investigators say the criminal probe remains active and they are seeking tips.
