Television Academy Announces Major Emmy Rule Changes for 2025

New rules redefine guest actor eligibility, expand director submission options, and adjust ceremony schedules.

Actors previously nominated or awarded in lead or supporting categories can no longer compete as guest performers for the same role in the same series.
Directors and directing teams are now allowed to submit multiple entries in a category, provided the submissions are for different programs.
The Daytime Emmys will move from June to October starting in 2025, while the News & Documentary Emmys will shift to June.
Additional rule changes for 2026 include stricter guidelines for reality casting credits and new requirements for main title music eligibility.
