Telangana to Issue First Rural Poll Notification After High Court Declines Stay

The election timetable advances under a court challenge to 42% Backward Classes reservations that remains undecided.

  • The State Election Commission will release the first-phase notification at 10:30 am on Thursday, opening nominations for ZPTC and MPTC seats.
  • The Telangana High Court refused to stay the process during hearings on the 42% BC quota challenge and adjourned further arguments to 2:15 pm on Thursday.
  • Nominations for phase one run from October 9 to 11 (10:30 am–5 pm), with scrutiny on October 12 and withdrawals permitted until 3 pm on October 15.
  • ZPTC and MPTC voting is set for October 23 and 27 with counting and results on November 11, while gram panchayat polls are planned in three phases on October 30 or 31, November 4 and November 8.
  • The polls cover 31 districts with 565 ZPTCs, 5,749 MPTCs, 12,733 gram panchayats and 1,12,288 wards, and officials have been directed to issue district notifications and begin receiving nominations.
