Telangana to Contest Almatti Height Increase as It Revives Pranahita and Orders Kaleshwaram Repairs

The government is pairing legal action with a 150-metre Tummidihatti plan to secure river water for the state.

Overview

  • Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said he will travel to Delhi on Monday to present Telangana’s case against Karnataka’s Almatti Dam plan now before the Supreme Court.
  • A public spat escalated as BRS leader T. Harish Rao claimed the revived Pranahita would cost ₹35,000 crore for limited ayacut, a figure Uttam dismissed as false since estimates have not been prepared.
  • Officials were told to fix the Tummidihatti barrage height at 150 metres and start a revised detailed project report to restart the PranahitaChevella scheme.
  • L&T, Afcons, Navayuga and the irrigation department’s Central Designs Organisation were asked to prepare geophysical and geotechnical studies and repair designs for Kaleshwaram’s barrages, with Medigadda testing expected only after a coffer dam enables low‑flow access next summer.
  • Hyderabad’s drinking‑water push advanced as HMWSSB awarded Ramky Infrastructure ₹2,085 crore for Godavari supply Phases II and III using Mallannasagar to send water to Osmansagar and Himayat Sagar, covering over 25 lakh residents.
