Overview

• Telangana on August 1 appointed a high-level committee of irrigation, law and general administration secretaries to study the Ghose Commission’s findings and submit a summary to the state cabinet on August 4.
• Justice PC Ghose’s 700-page report, submitted to the irrigation secretary on July 31, follows investigations into cave-ins at Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages and alleged quality-control lapses in the ₹1 lakh crore Kaleshwaram scheme.
• Andhra Pradesh HRD minister Nara Lokesh said the state will write to the Central Water Commission to secure clearance for its Polavaram–Banakacherla link and tap surplus Godavari waters for Rayalaseema.
• Lokesh questioned whether Telangana obtained central regulatory approval for Kaleshwaram, pointing to the Banakacherla DPR’s rejection by multiple agencies for lacking data and clearances.
• Former irrigation minister T. Harish Rao asserted that BRS will turn to the Supreme Court to defend Telangana’s 968 TMCft Godavari entitlement if Andhra moves ahead unilaterally with Banakacherla.
