Telangana Sets Terms as CWC Panel Plans Jan. 30 Meeting on APTelangana Water Disputes

Overview

  • The first meeting of the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s committee, chaired by CWC chief Anupam Prasad, is scheduled in New Delhi on January 30 to discuss water management between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • Telangana’s Principal Secretary (Irrigation) wrote to MoJS Secretary V. L. Kantha Rao seeking directions to stop Andhra Pradesh’s alleged PNLP/PBLP construction and DPR preparation and to halt the CWC’s appraisal of the pre‑feasibility report.
  • The letter states Telangana will attend only if those processes are stopped and notes the State reserves the right to pursue legal remedies.
  • The agenda covers inter‑state water issues including the Polavaram–Nallamalasagar/Polavaram–Banakacherla link, with both States asked to submit key issues for discussion.
  • GRMB and KRMB will provide inputs and may co‑opt experts, the NWDA chief engineer will attend, and CWC chief engineers Ashish Banerjee and S. K. Gangwar will coordinate with both States to identify technical experts, with senior irrigation officials named as members from each State.
