Telangana Rolls Out Thousands of Ration Cards and Housing Pattas in Women’s Empowerment Drive

Overview

  • Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy handed out 19,690 new ration cards and house site pattas to women beneficiaries in Khammam district on July 30.
  • Since early July, Telangana has issued more than 5.6 lakh new ration cards and disbursed ₹25,000 crore to 65 lakh women’s self-help groups, including ₹855 crore over the past four months.
  • Under the Akshara Lakshmi scheme every member of women’s self-help groups is guaranteed basic education, with additional life insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh and loans of up to ₹1 lakh under the Indiramma housing programme.
  • The Mahila Samakhya scheme has transferred ownership of petrol bunks and electric buses to women’s associations and expanded SHG participation in enterprises such as solar plants, rice mills and grain procurement.
  • The state has widened SHG membership to women aged 15 to 65 and introduced free RTC bus travel while reaffirming its goal to transform one crore women into millionaires.
