Overview
- A 7–8-year-old, identified as P. Premchand, was attacked by a pack of stray dogs on December 2 in Sivaganga Colony, Hayathnagar, suffering multiple bite wounds and a severed ear before neighbors chased the dogs away.
- He was first taken to Fever Hospital and later shifted to Niloufer Hospital, where officials said he is recovering after anti-rabies medication, primary suturing and rabies immunoglobulin.
- Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed GHMC to assist the family and act on dog control measures, while Minister Adluri Laxman visited the child, provided Rs 1 lakh in emergency relief and sanctioned an Indiramma house with continued medical and schooling support.
- The Telangana Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognisance and asked the GHMC commissioner and Ranga Reddy collector for reports by December 29 covering a factual account, the child’s medical status, sterilisation and preventive steps, and compliance with Supreme Court directions.
- GHMC teams reportedly captured many dogs in the locality and cleared accumulated garbage following local complaints, with officials and residents citing poor waste disposal and regular feeding as factors and reports differing on the size of the attacking pack.
