Telangana Releases Rs 40.53 Lakh to AAI for Peddapalli Airport Pre-Feasibility Study

The assessment targets a 591-acre site at Anantharam chosen after Basanthnagar was deemed unviable.

Overview

  • The Transport, Roads & Buildings Department issued a Government Order sanctioning the study, with the Finance Department having released a Rs 40.53 lakh BRO on August 8 based on AAI’s stated fee of Rs 40,52,946 per site.
  • The alternate location lies in Anthergaon mandal, identified by the district administration after AAI found the Basanthnagar site infeasible due to surrounding hills and restricted airspace used by the IAF.
  • The move forms part of a state plan for six regional airports, for which AAI has been engaged to prepare Techno-Economic Feasibility Reports.
  • Reporting indicates the pre-feasibility findings would inform a Centre-led detailed feasibility and subsequent approvals, with comparable projects cited as requiring investments around Rs 500 crore.
  • Peddapalli MP G. Vamshi Krishna welcomed the order, saying improved air connectivity would benefit residents, SCCL employees, students and local businesses presently reliant on the distant Hyderabad airport.
